  1. The education system in America is a little different than in England. Once an individual graduates from high school (usually at about 18 years old) they are able to apply to attend the University of their choice. There are two exams they can take, the SAT or the ACT. Based on the scores of these exams, their grades from high school, and other answers on the applications they usually will be accepted to a University. There they will decide on the course of study they wish to pursue. Most Universities have campus housing available to students.

What formal qualifications are you referring to?

  2. you go to a community college. you just have to be 18 to go. however, you might need a student visa or something. you go to community college for about 2 years then you can transfer to any four year college you want to pretty much depending on your gpa. one of the best community colleges is Santa Monica College.

  3. you should be able to... i think it's pretty easy, as long as you've finished prep school you should just be able to apply

most colleges over here have special sections for international students where they can give you all the info on what you'd need to do before hand

and you should be able to live in a dorm at most schools too, unless you're older and they have some type of age limit (it was 25 where i went to college)
