Question:

How do you go to the bathroom in a wedding dress?

I'm not getting married, I'm just curious. It looks completely impossible. I remember trying to manage my prom dress, and that was bad enough! How do you manage all those layers while trying to balance in heels? Do you have your bridesmaids hold it for you?

  1. VERY carefully lol !

  2. This is so funny because I hadn't thought of it ahead of time.

I suppose I hadn't had much liquid that day, because this didn't come up til the reception.

I had a big, traditional gown, with a cathedral train bustled  - and had my MOH come with me - I backed into the handicapped stall (yes, for shame, but I needed the room with all that fabric, plus I'm not little...), and she held out the dress in front of me, and up. It's just a funny situation, and of course then you don't feel like peeing in front of someone, but if you gotta, you gotta!

There's nothing like MORE bonding with your best friend who's your MOH!

  3. It'll be easier than some of my normal dresses, mine's an A-line skirt. I've been known to use my shoulders to hold up dangly parts of an outfit when I'm using the washroom.

  4. You better believe it! When my best friend got married, there was a great picture of us in the bathroom...me behind her holding up her dress making sure the tinkle didn't get on her dress!

  5. yup you have people hold it up for you.. sounds like tons of fun huh?

  6. Yes, the maid of honor or a bridesmaid have the honor of holding up the wedding dress while the bride uses that bathroom!

  7. I can't pee with other people in the bathroom or when people are talking in the next room! So there is no way I'm having a bridesmaid help me pee! I'm going to go before I put my dress on and if I have to go again then I will take off my dress, go, and put my dress back on!

  8. Twenty years ago when I got married in a big poofy wedding gown with train, my wedding planner had to go into the handicapped stall with me and help me manage the dress! For my wedding this summer, my wedding planner is a guy.  I'm wearing a cocktail dress which I can easily manage by myself in a regular stall.  :-)

  9. We had our reception in the hotel we were staying at, so hubby and I just went up to our room, took off the dress, I peed, put the dress back on and off we went again.

I think I went to the washroom 2 times from 11 am to 2 am.  I had such a headache when I woke up the next morning, totally dehydrated (I didn't drink any booze).

  10. use a catheter

  11. Yes, your bridesmaids and/or your mother will need to help you hold up the dress.  Some places have a separate bridal bathroom which is fairly large.  If not, use the handicapped stall (no woman will say wearing a wedding dress is not a handicap!).  That's how you go to the bathroom in a wedding dress because you surely don't want to go to the bathroom IN your wedding dress!

  12. with your MOH along to help hold the dress!

  13. You go with help. Go before you put your dress on, then if you have to go during the reception, make sure one of your bridesmaids will help hold the dress up and not let it fall in the toilet (or let you pee on it!) Good luck!

  14. There is usually a bathroom just for the bridal party at the reception.  It is HUGE, not like bathroom stalls at the prom.  And you shouldn't have to "balance in heels" as the reception should be a clean place.  It's not like a club!  And only your bridal party has access to the bridal bathroom, so if it's a mess you'll probably know who to blame..

No, I didn't have my bridesmaids hold it for me.  Just took hold, one hand between my legs, one hand just in front of my hips, spun and lifted the dress (to get the train out of the way), and voila, easy as pie...  'Course, I only did it once!

  15. You write:  Do you have your bridesmaids hold it for you?

Yes, usually a couple of bridesmaids come along and hold the dress for you.

  16. yes you have one of your closets friends hold it for you. or your mom. I went right before I got in my dress and I had to go again so yeah it wasn't fun

  17. I'm pretty sure you have someone (or a couple of people depending on the dress) hold it up for you.

I got married two months ago and I don't know if it was from the excitement or what, but I got in my dress at 11 AM and didn't take it off until we were back in our hotel room around midnight and I didn't have to use the bathroom once during the day!

  18. even with a non-poofy dress it's still a challenge to go to the bathroom! i had a train and a complicated bustle to contend with.....the more complicated or layered your gown, the more people you might need. my friend required two of us to hold her dress up.

it may SEEM embarassing to have an audience while peeing but, truthfully, everyone laughs about it later!

  19. I went to the bathroom before  I got dressed and was lucky I didn't have to go until after I got changed before we left the church.  I think in my case I would have taken off my dress and gone to the restroom and then put it back on.  The stalls at the church were a bit small to try to cram a few people in there to hold up my dress.
