  1. i always put it into point slope form first.

    y= mx + b is slope form

    in order to get your equation to look like that, you have to get 'y' alone, just like the formula i gave you

    so here's how:

    3x + 2y = 6

    -2y        -2y

    subtract 3x from each side

    3x + 2y = 6

    -3x        -3x

    so you get:

    2y = -3x + 6

    then to get y alone you have to divide both sides by 2:

    2y = -3x + 6   (you must divide BOTH terms on the left side)

    /2      /2    /2

    so then you're left with:

    y = -3/2x + 3

    when you graph a linear equation... the y- intercept is whatever number you have as your constant. in this case your y intercept is 3.

    or in the y = mx + b formula, your y intercept is always b.

    and your slope is always m.

    always start with your y intercept. in this case its 3.

    so on your y axis, where x is at 0, go up three and place a point.

    your slope on the graph always shows how much you 'rise'  ( up and down ) over how much you 'run' (left and right).

    so your slope rises -3 spaces (but its not really rising is going down since the 3 is negative)

    and you 'run' 2 spaces right.

      so starting at your y intercept ( 0, 3) , you must go down 3, then to the left 2, that is your second point.

    then again. down 3, then left two. this is your third point.  do as many as you like to get a good enough line.

    connect the dots=]

  2. The simple answer is put in two numbers for x, find out what y is, and plot those two points. That will work for any linear equation.

    If you solve for y, you'll get:

    y = -3/2 * x + 3

    3 is the y axis intercept--so the line crosses the y axis at y=3, and the slope is -3/2. So for every 2 the line goes to the right, it will go 3 lower.

  3. you have to put it in y=mx +b form where

    m= slope of the line

    b= y intercept

    so:

    3x+2y=6

    2y= -3x+ 6

    y= -(3/2) + 6

    and graph it:

    plot a point on your y intercept which is (0,6) and count to the right 3 and down 2, or to the left 3 and up 2
