How do you group chemicals?? help!!?

i've got a whole heap of chemicals in different products that i need to group, how do i group the chemicals?? please help!

In our lab, we first group into either organic or inorganic.  Then, we group families together, like alcohols, acids, bases, aldehydes, etc.
