so i have some carnation flowers, they look good.

i read it online that it is possible to grow them by cutting. i have tried to stick a few stems in the soil, nothing growed.

should i keep them in the water until they grow roots? or should i stick them in the soil where there is no direct sunlight first?

  1. cut off the flower head with about 2 inches stem. then leave those sturdy stems and plant them on planting soil where you can find in any gardening shop with sufficient of water without much sun and wind.  But the soil got to be drain not too moist until they got rooted and move them to the shade with a little reflecting light the promote their growth.

Right now it is the midsummer and carnation might be faded or dead in the winter if you have freezing winter.

  2. There's a method I learned a while back that works pretty well... take a terracotta pot and fill it with sand. Place that pot in a larger container or pot that is filled with water. Cut a 1/4 inch off the tips of the carnations, dip them in a B vitamin/root transplant solution (like the one offered by Miracle Gro), then plant in them in the sand. THey shoot take root within a couple of weeks. I would plant them in in partial sun until they get established.
