  1. Try this one, it's pretty simply and I've used it myself.  http://www.simplyhydro.com/system.htm

  2. idk but on askjeeves thay might have some good suggestions.

  3. You need good liquid fertilizer. You need something for the growing plant roots to hold onto. It can be pourous clay pellets, or this block of stuff (I forget what it's called) that is used to start seeds. You need very strong light to mimic sunlight. My husband used to have a BIG experiment going on down in the basement years ago. ha ha

  4. I would use

Miracle-Gro® Water Soluble All Purpose Plant Food

    http://www.miraclegro.com/index.cfm/even...

it can not hurt your plants,

    and its available almost anywhere.

all you have to do is mix it in with the water you are using on your plants.

    indoor or outdoor ?

as far as light, if its outside you should not need any lights, if indoor, you might need lights.

I have seen people use a pot full of small rocks or gravel for the plants roots to hold on to,

I have also seen people let the roots float free and hold the plant up some other way.

as far as watering, I have seen some use vermiculite because it holds the water so the roots do not dry out, then you can water it every few hours or twice a day so that the roots are not water logged and do not get moldy.

I have seen many systems of watering, including some that always keep the roots under water, and most of them work very well.

  5. everyones left out the most important part.....the light your going to need a hps or metal halide light or you could go cheap and use like a show n grow florescent....a water soluble fertilizer  and a sterile growing medium......after that probably an underneath reservoir and a wick system would be the easiest for you (just cut a terry cloth towel into strips to get water to your roots)and for school i would go with lettuce planted a week apart in rows to show how fast it grows

  6. Trying to grow some of the old devils lettuce eh?? Im on to ya!

  7. tomatoes is the best for your kind of experiment. we grow tomatoes hydroponically in large scale..

  8. lettuce would be a good subject --- quick growing lots of experience in growing it small root system ---- get a medium --- perlite or vermiculite are the best ---- you will need to get some correctly formulated food to put in the water --- then you need to keep it all clean as its too difficult to set up a proper recirculating system for a few plants ---- check the web for suppliers and more info ---- have fun
