How do you guessing and checking i am have a bit of trouble on it?

if you are talking about math then:

    say im trying to find the answer for

                           18+x=38

       and i dont know how to solve it...i'd put random anwers in for x and keep solving until i get 38...for example:

                   ill try 13:

     18+13=31 but it doesnt equal 38 so i need a higher number.... 18+15=33 so ill try again.....

18+25= 43....so i need to go lower.....

18+20=38 so x=20
