Question:

How do you handle a blind intersection?

I took my drivers test last month, and FAILED. This is because I stopped at a blind intersection, and thought that it was ILLEGAL to inch forward until I could see. So, I just went for it. Unfortunantly, there was, in fact, a car coming from the left. And by cutting him off, I made a critical error and failed.

Please tell me the correct way to handle a blind intersection. I'm taking the test again in two days, and I'm so nervous about that one intersection that I will no doubt have to deal with again.

THANK YOU so much!

  1. You inch out slowly looking all ways before proceeding- it helps to have your driver's side window down so you can listen for something coming to your left. I live in an area where to get out of here it is a curve to my left and a blind corner to my right. I have to listen both ways and mostly take a right so i am not dealing with cars coming both ways. Also do not have radio or CD player on. good luck.

bet the instructor had to change his underwear after that one.

  2. your suppose to stop before the crosswalk( if there is one) if not, just stop behind the stop sign, complete stop,

then creep forward until you can see

if theres a car coming, stop, if there isnt, go

    not hard..

  3. You handle a blind intersection the same way that you would a controlled intersection, you stop and check and recheck.

  4. First you stop before the line (stop when that line just disappears over the front hood of your car). Stop completely if there is a stop sign. If there is no white line, then stop before the crosswalk area. If there is no crosswalk, then you should stop within about 10 feet of the curbline.

Once you have stopped and complied with the law, then you can "creep" forward while covering your brake and scanning left, then right, then left (in left hand drive countries where the driver's seat is on the left side), because the vehicle coming from the left would hit you first.

Then continue creeping forward and continue scanning left, right left, until you are sure your path is clear and then proceed. You won't get hit this way. You'll also see any bicycles, pedestrians, skateboarders, little old ladies with oxygen tanks on carts, etc.

  5. It may not be "legal", but it's better than just randomly flying out into the intersection. You could have gotten yourself killed doing that. You should get a Rolls Royce Phantom. They have really long hoods so they have a feature where there is a camera in the front of the car. So at blind intersections you can use it to see traffic from both sides.

That's what it looks like. Oh and I'm just kidding about getting a Rolls Royce(unless you can). Your question made me think of that.

  6. Well as a person that learned how to drive in California I was taught that you have to stop BEFORE the cross walk (Not like Mississippi where people stop in the middle of a 4 way stop) and then proceed SLOWLY with caution until you are able to see passed what ever is blocking your view. Now remember that you MUST come to a complete stop (No california rolls) before you let off the gas.
