  1. personally, the answer is "very badly"

i have a habit of chasing myself in circles, in effect spiralling downwards. the best way, i find, to get out of this is to talk to someone, preferably one certain friend of mine. this friend listens without interrupting (except to ask questions to lead me into a different aspect of the bad stuff) and never openly judges me. it's comforting, and often helps me put things in perspective.

if i put the effect he has into logic, i'd say he helps partly because of the comfort of someone being there for you, but also because he makes me think "*why* am i thinking these things?" and "do these things have any valid reason to affect me?"

  2. Handle them by overriding them and choosing to be positive. Always bear in mind that negative draws more negative to it, and leads to destruction.  This being the case the wisest thing is to substitute a negative thought with a positive one and take action and be positive. In the same light positive draws more positive  things to it, hence it would obviously be the better choice.  Everything in life is about choices made and the consequences of the choices.  If negative the results will be negative and visa versa. Being positive, means maturing and displaying love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness. faithfulness and loyalty. integrity and dignity, moral behavior, patience self-control and endurance. People like being around positive people because they are encouraging, fun and nice to be with. So what are you going to choose?

  3. I try to push negative thoughts aside, and focus on positive thoughts instead. Try exercising, it's actually a very good stress reliever and can battle depression. Listen to some loud music, get a hobby. Keep your mind preoccupied on other things. Keep positive people around you, rather than negative ones. Don't let people bring you down. If worst comes to worst, you could always seek therapy, but I'd try the other things first.
