How do you have VERSATILITY in your acting, your roles, your characters?

For an example, look at Jessica Alba. (first I wanna say that i have a lot of respect for her, but i just have opinions about her as an actress) A lot of people don't really see her as a "great" actress. You know how every time you watch her in a movie, let's say her in Good Luck Chuck or something, you see her as JESSICA ALBA in the movie, you can't really see her as the character. Every movie she's been in, you see her as JESSICA ALBA. She is absolutely NOTHING like Johnny Depp. Unlike her, Johnny Depp is a lot more versatile, he is able to make himself look different in every movie, he is able to BE the character. In every jessica alba movie, she's just a parody of herself. So HOW do you make yourself look, act, sound, different in the different movies or plays your acting in and not make yourself look like a parody of yourself? like Mr. Depp. How do you have VERSATILITY? If you're just a regular actor like Jessica, can you take many serious acting classes/lessons and REALLY TRY to get better with determination and a lot of focus, and turn yourself into a greater and versatile actor like Depp?

How you become an actor with versatility, is becoming the character. Trying different roles,

Jessica Alba always plays the sweet funny girl. Perhaps maybe she should play some psychopath. Jessica should probably study the idea of method acting. If you see Depp's interviews, he explains how he decides the way his character should speak, the way they should talk.

Another way is actually becoming a versatile actor is

Where you actually connect with the character your playing. Write in a diary as your character, walk how your character would walk.  Go out in the town and BECOME you character.

Robert De Niro is Known for method acting techniques with his characters by heavily studying their backgrounds. Knowing exactly how a trouble character is way.
