Question:

How do you have a great birthday party with under $50?

I'm planning my birthday party late and am out on work at the moment so I have a budget of $50 to spend on 15 expected guests for my birthday.

The cost would go on eating out so where is a good place with enough food to fill 15 people that also has great desserts (preferably haagen daz/all natural ice cream) since I'll be doing that in place of a cake?

please help me out!

  1. birthdays are suppose to be fun you don't have to spend a whole lot of money to have a good time with your friends and family so i suggest go out to the cheapest and most funnest place you can think of or better yet make a pot luck dinner and have and snow ball fight thats always the best!!!

  2. $50 is a very tight budget to feed 50 people but it can be done. Having Haagen Daz really skews your budget because it will take 1/2 of your budget.

What everyone else is suggesting is heading in the right direction. Plan an informal pot luck. Have people bring paper plates, plastic utensils, drinking cups, napkins, chips, appetizers, syrup for your ice cream, side dishes. You can supply the following basics for $47.50 from Safeway or other neighborhood supermarket. The prices I show are everyday prices. You may be able to save a bit if you can catch the items on sale.

    Haagen Daz Ice Cream

    1 Quart for $6.99 serves 4

    $27.96 (four quarts!)

Fresh Express Garden Salad w/ Double Carrots

      Iceberg lettuce

      Red Cabbage

      Carrots

    16-servings for $2.99

$2.99 (have someone bring tomatos, cucumbers, etc)

    Safeway Thousand Island Dressing

    24 ounces for $4.39

$4.39 (pull all salad and dressing one bowl and premix)

    Barilla Linguine

    16 ounces for $1.89

$3.78 (this is quality; generic would be cheaper)

Barilla Garlic & Mushroom Pasta Sauce

    16 ounces for $4.19

$8.38 (again quality albeit without meat)

    Good luck and Happy Birthday!

  3. Get 2 stoffer family size meals and icream it will be under 50 and enough for all

  4. For that much money and that number of guests, you can barely afford to take them to McDonalds, let alone someplace nice with Haagen Daz... Put the $50 into buying a keg of beer and tell people to bring some food for a potluck to your house, with you supplying all the free beer they can drink, you'll have a h**l of a party.

  5. A volleyball net in the back yard, some burgers on the grill, scratch made potato salad and some ice cream! Add some Buds' or Miller's in the cooler (ok, I much prefer Sam Adams or Magic Hat.. but budget is the concern here)   Sounds like a fine time to me.   No back yard? Find a local park.. Might have to sub Cokes for the Bud's, but better than the alternative.

Trying to do 50 bucks in a restaurant for  fo 15 people adds up to a miserable time..   Even McDonalds for crying out loud is 5 bucks per person, no ice cream...

  6. I think that you may be in over your head.  At $50 for 15 guests, that's about $3.33 per person.  That's going to be kind of difficult to find a place to eat out for this amount and on top of that have haagen dazs ice cream!  You may want to reconsider.

How about having a dinner at home and asking friends to bring a dish to the party, like a potluck?  Then you could spend your money on premium ice cream and desserts?  Or, how about cutting down on the number of guests?

    Just my 2 cents....
