Question:

How do you have fun being a foodserver, or waitress?

I tried to be a waitress a few months ago, and it was awful. Thing is, my friend works at one of those big chain restaurants and loves it. I might need to pick up an extra job on the side, so I want to know how can I make it bearable enough to make some paper.

I really hate being phony and fake with people, btw, and I feel that's the number 1 thing restaurants want.

Help.

  1. yes you have to smile and tell someone to have a nice day when you would rather kick them in the xxxxx but anyway to be good at it you will have to become a little phony!!!

  2. I have found things to enjoy in every job I have ever had, over 52 years of employment. I enjoyed being a bus boy at a cafeteria in my teens - and you know what? I got tips as a bus boy, and a lot of nice thank yous! For every person you might think would improve the world by absence, there are 10 who make it better - look for them!

  3. the easiest way to make any job enjoyable is to keep it in perspective and don't forget your goals. there are no bad jobs, they are all what the employee makes of them, what YOU make of it. it is a matter of attitude and being focused, enjoyment comes from success and accomplishment.

restaurants DO NOT want you to be a fake or phony what they want is for you to sincerely appreciate the fact that the customer makes choices every day about where to spend their money and you are the one (right or wrong) who makes that choice obvious for the customer. you do not have to be a phony to be polite, respectful, concerned, attentive, organized and efficient at what you do.

always remember that your job,  ANY JOB,

pays you so you can do what you enjoy away from work, so ......

    treat it well.
