How do you heal a birds leg if it is broken?

My cat brought in a bird this morning and I need to know if there is something I can do or someone I can call? Please help I am only 13 years old and this bird is in pain.

If you call around some vets might even care for the bird free as a publiuc service on the condition that you let them hand it over to a wildlife or bird sanctuary, once treated.

I think on wild animals and wild birds;

it is the law to hand wild creatures over to a sanctuary.

There is really nothing you can do. It wouldn't be smart to bring the bird inside to care for it because birds carry diseases like no other. The best thing you can do is put it out of it's misery.

I'm afraid this bird doesn't have much of a chance unless you can find a wildlife rehabber in your area.  Truthfully, if the bird has been battered by a cat then it needs to be treated very soon.  If you can't find a wildlife rehabber in your area you can *try* calling the local humane society or animal shelter.  It's also possible that a local vet will treat the bird.  

Do the best you can to locate someone.  I hope you save the bird but at least you are *trying*.  Good for you.  Your heart is in the right place.

I went out side for a second and my cat went out as well, when I went to go back in, my cat had a bird in his mouth and was brining it inside, I rushed to my cat, brushed him away from the poor bird, and realized that it was still alive, it's little heart was beating so fast. I brought the bird outside and see if it would fly away, it didn't it just sat there, then I picked it up and gave it a little lift in the air, it started to fly, but then just slowly dropped to the ground and didn't land well. I didn't want to bring it inside, because I have young children and I know that birds carry a lot of diseases, so I put the little bird on a very tall bush so that no other animal could touch it. This just happened to me right now, and I was wondering also how do you know if a birds leg is broken, I am not sure if it is injured or not.I am going to check on it before I go to bed, I just hope it starts flying away. the only way to heal a bird is to take it to a vet. since it is wild you might want to call a local wildlife sanctuary. Good luck!

take it to the animal shelter. most birds don't heal from those kind of injuries on their own.
