  1. The best way I found was to schedule the shower after hot water was used for something else, like maybe washing your face, brushing your teeth, or even dishwashing.  The water in the tank is usually already heated, so there's no need to run excess water to heat.

  2. invest in an instant tankless water heater. It will save you a fortune.

  3. The do make a recovery system for sinks that recycle back but they cost and not sure they are made for showers. look on DIY and see if the can tell you anything about them.

  4. Collect the cold water in a bucket and use it to flush the toilet, or water your plants.

  5. you can install a recirculating pump. it will cost you several hundred dollars initially but it will give you almost instant hot water all through the house.

  6. now thats an idiot question if i ever heard one.

  7. If you replace a tank water heater with a tankless, you'll still have to wait until the water reaches the shower.  As one person said, use buckets of water to collect the cold water (when turning it on full hot),  it may save you a gallon that you can use to water plants.

  8. get in it first then turn it on hot, and pray its not freezing. haha other then that i dont think theres a way. sorry i couldnt help more :(

  9. all you can do it pray dear

  10. normal

  12. turn the heat up all the way and just barely turn the water on, it will waste much less water and will actually heat up much faster.
