used to know how to do it, but forgot. How do you highlight text straight down evenly. I remember there was a command that put you into the mode then you had to do the command again if you wanted to get out of it. ie: if you have the following three sentences:

11111111111111111111119999999

11111111111111111111119999999

11111111111111111111119999999

There is a command to highlight all of the ones and none of the nines.

It is a windows shortcut. I used to use it in UltraEdit with VBScript, but it also worked in Microsoft Word.

Thanks,

fariche

  1. Ok, thats simple.

Open your MS Word. write down your 3 lines as you shown above:

    11111111111111111111119999999

    11111111111111111111119999999

    11111111111111111111119999999

Now move on to the top and press CTRL+SHFT+F8

Now the column mode is ON, you can just select the 1's by moving your arrows key.

    Good luck!!!

  2. I don't really think it's a short cut but what I do to highlight like that is use the shift button and then the arrow keys to highlight as far over and far down as I need it to. I honestly don't think it's any quicker than using the mouse though.

  3. You can hold the ctrl key to highlight separate areas. I don't know if Word has a shortcut to highlight vertically, but you might look in

    Edit > Select.
