How do you hit the ball hard in volleyball?

I am 5'10" with a 28" vertical. So I can get high enough off a four step approach. However, when I contact the ball, I almost always shank it or hit it softly. How do I really smash it down so it bounces really high when it hits the ground on the other side?

  1. practice smashing it against the wall a few times, then add it to your approach

  2. When u get really for a spike make sure you have your 2 step count you must be able to have to steps so that when u jump up u have enough room arch your back and slap the ball or u could ball up your fist and punch it. Make sure you hit down towards the ground other wise you'll have an out ball. Make sure u put enough power.

  3. You can really get power into your hitting if you have a good spiking technique. This includes the approach, arm swing and jump etc.

You may want to get someone else to watch you and see if you have each of the spiking components working well. If you have then you can focus on gaining more power.

For what it is worth, check out this article http://www.volleyballdrillsnskills.com/h...

It might set a couple of things straight for you.

And for the time being at least you can get a free book of 20 volleyball drills.

  4. This is mainly a timing issue, and how you work on your timing is start out hitting the ball against the wall, about 8ft. from the wall and spike it on the floor so that it bounces against the wall and back to you so you can hit it again and practice hitting the same spot over and over until you become very comfortable with it before you know it you will control the  ball. lets start there and let me know if you want to continue this discussion, which will move to spiking it hard.

  5. First you need to make sure you keep the ball in front of you if you are hitting it when it is behind you you will lose power.  When you take your approach the last two steps you should gather your self  for power you should use your non-hitting hand as a guide.  your body should also come into play when hitting the ball it is almost like throwing a football.  Not just an arm movement then snap your wrist.  if you do not snap your wrist it has a good chance of going out.  Follow through on your swing.

    Good luck

  6. hit it with the palm of your hand and snap

  7. work on your biceps, when you spike.. swing your arm, and hit with your palm. done.

  8. try a three step approach instead, and wait untill the balls at its highest point and then start your approach, stap your wrist and pull through fast.

  9. thats nice size but it hit right on the heel of the palm

    good luck

  10. If you played basketball before, you know you would have to jump "under" the ball (which is not right in volleyball) and take over the "space" before you grab the ball.

In volleyball, you need to jump **behind** the hitting spot, as you never have to worry about your space. That way when you swing you put more weight on your palm, and drive the ball going down (compared to the way you jump under the ball and bend your upper body backward... and hit the ball "flat" or into the sky).

  11. okay well to hit it harder jump on top of it and open your hand really wide tighten it and snap your rist and reach high its easy once you get used to it TRUST ME
