  1. Put a network card in it.

  2. You can't attach to the network without a network adapter. You will have to install a card, or use a usb adapter.

  3. Buy a PCI NIC card and insert it. How old is this machine and what is its make/modle? This would make answering much easier.

  4. This really depends on the age of the computer as everyone else has hinted at.  If it has at least Windows 98, then chances are that it has a PCI slot, which is usually white or beige, in the machine, in which you can go to any store that sells network cards and getting a Phillips screwdriver and taking out one of the blanks in the back of the computer after pulling the cover off, and removing the blank.  Then taking the network card and putting it in slot of the blank you just removed, turn the machine on and install the drivers for it if the computer didn't automatically install them for you.

Now if your computer uses something older than even Windows 98 (or some Windows 98 machines), it may have an ISA slot, which is be much short than a PCI slot and usually brown, and getting a network card for this can be more difficult.  All I could say is that you would have to really research for this, looking at computer resellers (not retailers) or maybe on Ebay(?). And it is the same basic principle of installing if you find one.

If your machine works just fine for your needs, don't bother upgrading your machine, which is a very unpopular belief with most because they try to sell you on better and faster, and not on your needs.  But if all you have is ISA, then you are sort of forced into upgrading.  Hope this helps.
