I have a ps3, hddvd player and directv. All have hdmi cords, my Onkyo receiver only has 2 inputs.

I purchased what looked like a splitter on ebay, one hdmi in to a small box and two hdmi cords come out.... but it did not work. What do I need to do? THanks!

  1. I hooked my PS3 and DVD player via hdmi to the hdmi ins, my cable is thru normal scart and audio is thru opitical. All seems to work well.

If all you devices handle hdmi, then get a hdmi switch.

  2. Use component video, and optical sound cables they are compatible with 1080p, so they can show the same picture quality as hdmi cables

  3. You can either connect one of the sources (e.g direct TV) via component, or buy an HDMI switch (not a splitter).

A splitter distributes the signal equally to two outputs ... it doesn't select inputs.

A switch will select from several inputs and feed one to a single output. Oppo make a good 3X1 model, with a remote control, for $100
