How do you hook up your xbox 360 to dolby digital 5.1?

i tried keeping the yellow part of the wire in the T.V. and the red and white ones in the back of my surround sound system, but it was really quite and i heard crackling, please help

You'll need to use an optical audio cable to connect your 360 to your surround system.  The connector for this cable is located on the adapter that plugs into your 360.

there should be a little black door on the connector of your av cable connector to your xbox that is a digital optical input which supports surround sound and you can plug that straight into your surround sound receiver. the red and white cables are called rca's which are only two channels and dont support a 5.1 surround sound
