  1. As a mechanic I have to hot-wire boats all the time. Boaters just don't think about leaving a key, when they want work done on their boat. I can just about steal one faster than looking for spare key. Wire color codes are just about all the same.Purple wire feeds the + side of coil; hook a jumper wire to this from from 12 volts +. That turns on the ignition. Now to crank the engine, the color code is yellow/black stripe; or yellow/red stripe. You can tell by looking at the starter.  You need a starter button; to connect 12 volts + to this wire; only long enough till the engine starts. DONE!!!  I always have a jumper wire and starter button in my carry-on tool bag; as does everyone who is a marine mechanic. I can open the engine hatch, and have the engine running before my helper even has the boat untied! That is why I tell the customer to just leave the keys on the boat, in a drawer or somewhere. If someone wants to steal your boat they don't need a key.

  2. Just need to cross the correct wires that hook to ignition. That is all the key does is make a connection between two points

  3. Go away.

  4. If this is your boat, it's easier to get a replacement key.  Depending on the boat, contact a dealer for that brand, boat or engine.  I know that with Bayliner, for years about five keys would start almost all of them.  Merc and OMC have key numbers stamped on the switch, etc.   Good luck!

  5. Hopefully those who gave an answer have not given factual information. If you did please think about refraining from doing such in the future for you have absolutely no clue what this person will be doing with the info you provide.

  6. quietly and in the dark

  7. What kind of boat?  are the wires already disconnected?  if they aren't, leave everything hooked up & go buy a key for it... there are only a few different keys that will start most boats...  or just take the switch with you...

  8. hahaha

  9. Ask your local Sheriff/Policeman. They will have a great idea!
