  1. This is what I do and I get 25 MPG out of my 95 E-Class.

    First of course...don't speed! That'll destroy your statistics.

    Try to flow with traffic. Don't follow the fastest cars, instead keep up with traffic and avoid flooring or heavy breaking.

    Depending on your engine size and HP rating, pick a speed that is rated for best fuel economy and try to keep it most of all times. e.g. on my car it is 75 MPH. (Info should be in your owners manual as well)

    Pick up speed going down hill and slowly release acceleration uphill.

    Modern engines cut off fuel to the engine while coasting or using engine breaking. Use this every time you are going down hill or if you want to decelerate.

    Plan your maneuvers ahead.

    So far, this has helped me a lot, but I am always open for new techniques ....
