  1. Rather than WordTracker I use KeyWord Elite.  The technology within that software is better than the free version of WordTracker and you don't have to pay for it on an annual basis if you want the full service.

    Also, I built my...

    Website using the following strategies.

    1.  Submit articles to article directories.

    2.  Submit videos to video directories.

    3.  Use social networking and social bookmarks

    4.  Optimization

Far to often people think that a single keyword is going to get them what they are looking for.  Perhaps that would have been the case 10 years ago, but it certainly is not true today.  Use a website like HitTail to find the best longtail keywords for your usage.  And if you still have questions after that drop me an e-mail at Guy@SEO-And-Beyond.com and I'll be glad to help you any way I can.

We all need traffic. It's the life-blood of an online business. But what are the best ways to drive targeted traffic directly to your website? Here are 7 great tips to help you decide.

    1. Offline advertising = Online profits

Whatever you're trying to sell online will most likely link to a relevant or appropriate media section offline. For example, if you're selling bicycles from your website, there will undoubtedly be a suitable offline magazine, in which you can place an ad. The purpose of the ad is not to sell your products, but to get prospects to visit your website. So your ad need only consist of a few lines, which should work out to be quite inexpensive.

Your bicycle ad could read like this: Looking for a new bicycle? We stock a huge range at discount prices and can deliver within 48 hours. To learn more visit our website. www. bicycles4u.com - Your ad could be placed in cycle mags, sports magazines or even national and local newspapers. Wherever you think your most likely prospects will look for your products or services offline is a means to getting them to go online.

    2. Press releases for the inquiring minds

Some people just have to know what's new, what's in and what's out. To stay ahead in this information age, online and offline press releases can offer newsworthy titbits that could even be picked up by the national press. If you're just starting out in your online business, launching a new product or creating a new service, people will want to know about it................................

  3. Without a doubt everyone should use Wordtracker.com.  You can use a free version for 7 days and then it moves to a paid version.  Keywords,Keywords, and more Keywords is a big part of the total puzzle.

  4. Some of the different  ways to promote your website for free is through article marketing, blogging and forum marketing. Google AdWords is a good paid advertising method. Article marketing can be the most powerful method of increasing web site traffic when done correctly. Go over your website content and pick out what you consider to be the KEYWORDS and then write an article on each of those keywords. I suggest you write a minimum of 10 articles and distribute them to the top article sites. Make sure you put a link to site in the resource box( you will not be allowed to place it in the body of the article) If you write good content you will get lots of people clicking on the link to your website. If you get really ambitious you can learn how to optimize your site for the search engines which can bring you a ton of on-going traffic when done correctly. This would require some study. 5. The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is

to first set up a website and publish its domain name

on major search directories such as Google.com,

    Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?...... and

MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these

search directories to provide them with goods and

services. In a sense, these search directories are a

    very large Internet Yellow Pages.

Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage

fail to contain "generic" keywords, then anyone using

such "generic" queries will not be able to discover

your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website,

in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.

You may want to consider some simple algorithms which,

when observed and committed in designing of a website

with placement of various critical metatags that can

surely achieve a high search engine presence and

increase Internet traffic to your website. These

metatag strategies work well with published webpages

    at Google and Yahoo.

Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based

website, make sure to fill-in the property entries

such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing

to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can

be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the

Internet audience and their incoming setup. For

example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages

take too long to load up and therefore analog users

will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the

Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL

lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So

before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple

question, "Who's my end user - is he on dialup or

DSL?" And if you had to choose between these two users

for maximum marketability, then select analog users

since 80% of most resident users are still analog

Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages

    is best for them.

A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text,

is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit

the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a

graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.

Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots

are unable to properly classify textual material.

    Placement of Metatags:

A ranking or search order does take place with Google

and Yahoo and it begins with the "Title" metag which

should consist of no more than 65 characters separated

by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic

terms, the goods and services, followed by a location

from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state.

The placement of a domain name which is not generic

within the "Title" is not appropriate, unless your

domain name is a major recognizable brand name.

The second metatag is the "Description" which is

usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which

best describes one's goods and services.

And the very last category - "Keywords" are also

somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural

and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries

which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which

is defined as the loading, and submission of

repetitive words into a particular metatag category.

"Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported

to Google's spamreport.com can result in the

elimination of your website from their search

    directory.

Here's an example of a very highly-placed website on

Google.com: Begin with the very "generic" search query

"sandwiches downtown los angeles," taking note to not

abbreviate Los Angeles to "LA" and of course, leave

out the parentheses ("). It will bring up some 2.4

million+ search results. Check out where "Nazos.net"

is ranked. It's ranked No. 1!

Again, Nazos.net's high web presence was achieved by

proper web design and placement of relevant metatags

    according to Google's publication guidelines.

    Good luck!

  6. Good question, that's what we all want to know! Firstly you need to track visitors you are getting already. Where are they being referred from, what page are they landing on, what pages are they going to, how long are they staying and are they coming back.

You need visitors to know who you are (SEO) and provide them with original content to make them interested.

    It does take time.

It depends what your site is about as to where you target your resources or budget.

I suggest you have a look at our new site for beginners guide to website design and promotion. We are trying to impart our knowledge and experience gained from starting our own site www.shareworld.co.uk some 3 years ago. It is not an advertising site itself and we would welcome questions or indeed suggestions from anyone. http://www.ds32.com
