Have purchased the correct diverter model. Have tested it but water continues to run out of the bathtub faucet. Is there a specific way that the should be put in?

  1. what style?

if its a 3 handle style tub shower valve there is only 1 way to install it. There is a seat behind the stem though that may need to be re-ground

  2. there should be a separate O-ring that you have to slide over the back of the diverter. There could also be a nic in the seat that the diverter o-ring sits on but this doesn't sound like it in this case.

check the bag the diverter came in and make sure that there isnt an extra o-ring in there
