I red a lot of places that red and green is the primary line, but none of my wires are red, I have White, Blue, Orange and green. There are two orange, two green ones, and one blue and white, all coming out of the sheath. What is equivalent to Red/Green or how can I hook it up?

Thank you so much.

  1. If you look more closely, you will probably find that each wire has a combination of two colors, and they form pairs, e.g. the first pair will be white/blue (i.e. a white wire with blue stripes or bands) and blue/white (meaning blue with white bands).

For a single, standard residential line, only this first pair is actually needed, and the colors matches up as follows:

    White/blue = Green

    Blue/white = Red

If you have a second line, this will usually be on the white/orange pair, the corresponding colors at the jack being:

    White/orange = Black

    Orange/white = Yellow

  2. Actually the pairs will be twisted see : http://nps-vip.net/tester/cat.htm

Try just check the combination till you hear a dial tone.
