Question:

How do you install a pneumatic VAV controller?

I have a titus VAV mixing box with a hot deck/cold deck inlet and single discharge duct outlet. I know some of my controllers and damper actuators are bad. What is the proper way to replace/install a pnematic VAV controller?(TITUS CSC-2004-03). Do I need to use a flow hood to properly calbrate, or adjust? IS there any literature available online that can give me step by step instructions?

  1. I don't think Titus makes the controllers they put on their VAV boxes.  It looks like a company called Dynacon makes the pnumatic actuator.  If you look right above the table on this page:

    http://www.dynacononline.com/CSC-2000%20...

There is a link to installation instructions.

  2. Replacing/swapping out bad parts is not difficult.  Nip the ends of the poly lines that will attach to new parts to insure a lasting fit.  Use OEM parts so you don't have to fabricate brackets etc.( which is no fun up in a tight ceiling space)

Your question about calibrating references a slightly more complicated application of vav controls.  It is not unusual to have the calibration instructions pasted on the side of the box or on the inside cover.  To calibrate your controllers you need to understand the sequence of operation which is how your boxes are supposed to work.  Such as... what is supposed to happen when you adjust the thermostat and if the your dual duct vav boxes are constant volume or variable volume.

This link will get you to a site that has the installation, calibration, adjustment directions and purchasing info for your reverse acting vav controllers. http://www.kmccontrols.com/products/Prod...

    Good Luck!!
