  1. If you have a difficult situation it's nearly impossible to tell you how to deal with it unless you can provide detailed information, drawings or pictures.  But I can tell you how to approach it.  The weight of the unit needs to be carried on the bottom of the window opening, a sill or something like that.  Then the air conditioner usually hangs out of the window, which means there has to be a board across the top of the unit that bears on the inside of the window.  I made two boxes like that, and it takes care of my little house.  I can put a box in a window, it has the air conditioner shell screwed into it, and then I slide the mechanicals into it.  Weight alone holds it in place.  I cut a piece of insulation board to pop in each side.

  2. Follow the directions that came with the a/c.   We just did  and put a 2x4   between the window sill and the metal frame. Attached the a/c unit to the 2x4  making sure the 2x4 is firmly attached to sill.

  3. Well I had this problem in my mobile home--let me tell you what Dad did.  He cut a thin piece of wood that fit on the ledge to make the lip flush with the wood.  Then he built an upside down L shaped brace to help hold the weight from the outside and screwed the small part of the upside-down L to the piece of wood he put on the ledge.  Then we set the A/C into place.  Just make sure it has enough tilt to it that the water goes outside not in!
