I agree with TV guy though some TVs don't have outputs.  If this is the case and you haven't got a cable box, I suggest using a stereo VCR as your tuner.  Plug your coax cable into the VCR and use its outputs. (Pull apart a standard RCA red yellow and white cable.  Send the yellow to the TV and the red and white to your home theater.)

It all depends on how you get your TV signal.

If you use a set-top box, connect the audio output from the STB to the receiver.

If you use antenna/cable, connect the audio output from the TV to the receiver
