I have to write a short essay interpreting the significance of Hamlet with a quote from the play. I have to also make a personal connection with the quote. I'm not quite sure where to start.

  1. quote = Hamlet: There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

When the watchman tell Horatio about having seen the Ghost he dismisses it as nonsense but when Hamlet is told of the Ghost he does not argue against it but can accept the possibility of an apparition. Intellectually, Hamlet is way ahead of Horatio and he tries to expand Horatio's thinking.

The Ghost seeks revenge on Claudius by having Hamlet kill him, but as there are also more things in heaven than Hamlet has dreamt of, he doesn't act precipitously, but is concerned that the Ghost might be an evil spirit. Hamlet doesn't like Claudius, but he never gets a scrap of proof to justify executing Claudius for murdering his father, and so he does nothing.

We in the audience hear Claudius's confession to the murder but poor old Hamlet doesn't have that luck so it's unfair to accuse him of inaction in bumping off Claudius.
