I just got a new baby ferret yesterday (female) i when i went to put her in the cage with my other 2 ferrets (boy and girl) my 3 year old girl ferret tried to kill her. i thought this was odd because my girl is usually so nice and gentle,my boy on the other hand loved the new baby. anyway ive tried letting her sniff the baby's hair, ive tried letting her look at the baby, but every time i have to restrain her because she is lunging at the baby with death in her eyes.

How are you suppose to introduce female ferrets to each other without them killing each other???

  1. Okay.  Your first female is telling the new ferret that she is the boss.  This is basically a way of establishing rank in the group.  There will always be one boss, and she or he will let the others know it.  What happens is this - the "boss" will grab the newcomer by the neck and drag her/him around.  The one being dragged will "scream" and "cry" but will not be hurt.  There should be no blood involved in this at all.  It doesn't physically hurt the one being dragged, just lets her/him know that someone else is the boss.  You'll just have to watch them when they are out together.  Remember, the baby is new, she's in a new place with new smells, and all of a sudden another female ferret "tells" her that I am the boss of this group and you are not.  There will be some fighting and tussling but it should end in about a week or so.  Don't worry, they'll be fine and snuggling up shortly.

Also, remember that the new ferret is a kit and will be very active, while the older ones will still play but not as much or as hard.  Think about having some extra time with the little girl to tire her out and then let her back in with the other two.  Congrats on your new ferret!  I know you will have fun, and maybe (just maybe) you'll have 9 ferrets like me!

  2. bath both of the ferrets  and when baby is dry, rub the big ferrets bedding all over baby or leave her in cage for a couple of hours without the big ferret,so the little ferret will get the big ferret scent and then take what the little ferret sleeps in and rub on big ferret to mix the scent up and then try introducing them. sometimes you will get ferrets that will not get along at all, and u might have to buy another cage or the baby.
