Tell me,

you're with Friend A and you see old Friend B from high school. Long time!

You want to catch up with Friend B, don't wanna leave Friend A hanging though.

What do you do?

  1. you just do it naturally.. you say hi to the friend you haven't seen in a long time and smile and say a few words and then you introduce to him or her the friend you are with and say to friend B...  This is John or this is Jane... my friend from xxxd and to John or Jane you say..  ''this is my friend Bxxx from High school..  fancy meeting this way.. and they will say hello to each other. and you can make this easy.. you can talk to your friend about old times.. but you should not leave friend A out of the conversation.. you should explain little things.. and also address friend A during the conversation and include friend A in the conversation.. it happened to me once I was with someone.. I was introduced to his sister..  and we were supposed to spend that evening together.. him and I .. and all he and his sister did was talk to each other.. I felt left out.. so don't do that. it is possible to catch up with friend B from high school without making friend A look like the 5th wheel .. like he or she was  in the way..  include friend A .. you can have short discussions only with friend B.. but never make friend A feel excluded. if you want to catch up with friend B give him or her your phone and email number and you two can decide then to meet without friend A.. a next time.. x*x

  2. Just do the intro.

(Jane is friend A; Emily is friend B)

ex: "Jane this is Emily.  Emily this is Jane.  Jane, I know Emily from high school - she did cheer with me.  So Emily, Jane and I were just shopping..."

If they have similar interests in music or something, bring that up.  Sure, it's a little awkward for friend A, so keep the conversation quick.  Say, "Emily.  We've got to get going, can I have your number and we'll grab coffee and catch up".  Or you could say, "We were just going to grab lunch, did you care to join".

Just make sure that you don't totally snub either friend.  So if you notice that you're talking too much with one friend, then just change the subject to include the other.

This happens all the time.  Just make sure you do the introduction and toss around names.
