How do you judge whether it is appropriate to tell a joke around someone or not?

What time of jokes are a no no always?

If you hesitate, it is prob. not a good idea not to tell it.  Jokes that poke fun at disabled persons are always out of bounds.

A true case in point.

A man was hired for an executive position when he interviewed in Dallas.  He had taken a flight to Dallas for this.

The employer was driving to Houston and offered the new employee a ride with him.

On the way to Houston, the employee told an Aggie joke.

(That's TX. A & M, if you aren't aware)

The employer was a graduate of A & M.

It offended the employer so much, he resicinded the job offer.
