I bought something like a fish-bowl with a spigot to get my water out of the 5-gallon jug I buy about once a week. After about 4 months, it cracked a little in the bottom of the bowl, and, when I removed the 5-gallon jug, there was ALGAE lining the BOTTOM of the BOWL!! Can I put a cap full of chlorine in my water jug to prevent this from happening again?

  1. If you use pure water with nothing in it, algae will grow. But, if you use tap-water, it shouldn't allow any to grow.

Wash out the tank well, then fill it with tap water. If you use it for drinking, yes use tap water. If you don't, just add some liquid chlorine.
