i've had to let my cat go to a new home, a neighbor keeps feeding her and she was getting too fat -and yes i've asked the neighbor to stop but she just says the foods not for the cat but for the hedgehogs-

The new owner of the cat just rang me up saying the cat has escaped, so i no she is on her way home.

poor guy is very nervous , but i don't know any tricks to get the cat to accept her new home, do you have any ideas?

  1. The only thing that will work is time, and not having the neighbor feed the cat.  The cat may have escaped to come home where it is getting all the love and food it wants, or it escaped because it was confused with the new surroundings.  When the cat shows up return to new home and ask them to be very careful about letting her out.  Ask the neighbor if she could restrain from feeding the hedgehogs for a week or so.  Good luck!

  2. You need to keep the cat indoors 24/7 at the new home for eight weeks.  I put them in one room for a couple of weeks at the start, then leave the door open so they can explore the rest of the house as they wish.

Also, put a collar and tag on the cat in case he/she escapes (as happened).  A microchip would be a good idea, too.

I have moved several times and never lost a cat this way.

  3. keep the cat inside where it belongs

  4. The new owner will need to keep him in for around two weeks. Simple as that.

Oh, and Catlover, stop acting like you know everything. Depending on where you live, cats can go out and be very happy.

  5. by giving it some milk
