How do you keep a cotton comforter from getting nubby?

Question

You know how some materials get when they've been used and washed quite a bit - that nubby, linty, scatchy feel. How do I avoid this with a new cotton/polyester comforter? It's t-shirt jersey material, if that helps any.

Also, is there any way for me to "fix" a comforter that already is nubby? It's also cotton, though not jersey.

Well, the best thing that I can tell you is that when you wash it, use fabric softener and then make sure you dry it thoroughly.
