Question:

How do you keep a positive state of mind at work?

I'm about to start work this week after being off for a few months (I'm a teacher). I work in a very tough environment where overall staff has a low morale and people can be as evil as snakes. This year we have new leadership. Even so it will still be a difficult place to work with difficult people and difficult mandates.

I'm starting to subconsciously get into a negative frame of mind as the first day of work is nearing. I want to overturn this so I can be more productive. How can I be one of those people who are stress-free at work? Do you have any little tips to help me in this area?

  1. You know a work environment with difficult people is really tough to deal with. Last year I got out of a job where I worked for a supervisor who stabbed me in the back. He was always looking for ways to get rid of me so was always getting me in trouble no matter what I did. I felt sick and hated going to work.

If you are a teacher just focus on your work and the kids you teach. I don't really know what to say beyond that. If things are really bad, you should seriously consider moving somewhere else. That is what I ended up doing, because no tips or advice could change the fact that some of the people I worked with were evil snakes. Life is too short, so get out of there if you can.

  2. The feeling's we have are often times the questions we ask ourselves. I think your mood about work will change if you ask yourself good questions when you go to work. For Example..

Bad Question: Why do i have to deal with these negative people at work?

Good Question: What can i find in each one of these negative people at work that i like about them?

  3. Remember what your job is. Your job is to teach and be a mentor. Don't let negative influences, as heavy as they maybe, affect your productivity. Music may help you as well. Songs like : Take it easy by The Eagles,  Don't worry be happy, and Ooh child. Also, remember the movie Lean On Me. I work in a environment similar to yours. I just focus on my job and let everyone else focus on theirs. Don't let those snakes affect you in anyway. Fu** them. Don't take their c**p. Remember what your job is. Make sure you're the best d**n teacher your students ever get.
