How do you keep focused on something else?

A lady brings her baby, who is old enough to sit up by himself, to our Adult Sunday School class, instead of leaving him in the church nursery like all the other mothers. She says that's too long to leave him. I was soooo distracted by him being there. I couldn't focus on the lesson. Then I got irritated that I couldn't focus on the lesson. By the end of the hour I was glaring at her. I know I'm just going insane. But I can't stand people talking about their babies anymore, and I can't get away from them. Every time I meet someone new, the first question out of their mouths is, "Do you have children?" Whatever happened to "what do you do?" or "what brings you here?" or something. It's like if you don't have children you have no place there. All the activities are "family-oriented" - "family" meaning "families who have children." The sermons, the discussions, everything is about parenting, being a good parent, raising up a new generation, blah, blah, blah, blah! I know I'm supposed to be there to worship God and focus on Him, but it's getting so I can't. And I don't know how to fix it. How do you ignore something that seems to be in your face all the time? How do you focus on something else?

  1. Maybe you could change churches.  Try one that has more of a mature group.  I don't know how likely that will be though. However, if that's not likely, just try to embrace the babies.  Families are big in the church setting.  It's all about bringing up the next generation in a positive way.  Maybe you could volunteer in the sunday school to try and have more appreciation for the little ones.

Addition:Hey.  It didn't seem like you wanted your own from the way you were talking.

  2. I can really understand the fact you want to have your own, because we all do. I've taking 3 rounds of clomid and still nothing. I also work at a clinic and see the most beautiful babies everyday and wonder how would my child look like. But you have to understand, when it's your time then you will have a baby. You can't rush god's plan for you. You say that you are a believer?? Then believe that he has something in store for you and he is able to hear your cry. Like I told the other people on this site, making a baby is like making your favorite food all you need is the right ingredients. take care and be patient!! Talk to your doctor about getting some medication to help you with this and let god do everything else out. take care
