  1. Instead of going 1,2,3 points, the score is read like: 15, 30, 40, and then the win. Thus, when you score, you get 15. Now lets say you score first, you will be "15", and your opponent will be "love."  Whoever serves says the score aloud.

  2. In tennis, the entire game is called a "match" and each match is made up of a number of sets. Normally, each match has 3 sets. Now, each set is in turn made up by games. There are normally 6 games in each set, but if the score is 5-5, the set will increase to 7 games to establish the winner (this is a tie-breaker). In a game, the score goes from 0 (no points scored, usually called "love") to 15, then 30, 40 and Game (meaning win). In other words, a player needs to make 4 points to win a game, needs to win 6 games to win a set and 2 sets to win the match.

Within a game, if both players have scored 3 points ( 40 to 40), then there is a tie, which in tennis is called a deuce. The player that makes the next point will have an "advantage". If the same player makes another point, he wins the game.

  3. Basically, tennis scoring proceeds from love to 15 to 30 to 40 to game. Why, then, are some games so long?

*The server's score is always announced first.

*Watch for whom the first point is made. A player loses the point by missing the ball, hitting it into the net or hitting it out of bounds. A server loses the point immediately if he or she double-faults - fails to hit the ball in the service square after two attempts.

*Announce the score if you're serving. The first score is 15. A score of zero is "love." If the server makes the point, the score is "15-love." If the other player makes the point, the score is "love-15."

*Note that a player must be ahead by two points to win the game. If the game score progresses to 40-40, or "40-all," a player must gain the advantage ("40-ad" or "ad-40"), and then score the next point to win the game. If the player with the advantage does not score the next point, the score goes back to 40-all.

    I hope this helps...

  4. I look at the scoreboard, and write them down on a paper. sometimes I copy and paste them...save them in my desktop and print them later.

  5. I invented a way to keep track of the single points on my racket.
