  1.   Jacko is right about chestnut oil.You can use horse chestnuts (conkers) placed around the house

  2. No but the cat seems to find them and dispose of them if they get to a low enough height.

It's the noise of the cat trying to eat a large fly that put me shivering.  It sounded like "BUZZZZZmmmmmmBUZZZZZZmmmmmmmm

    BUZZZZZZmmmmCRUNCHmmmmm

    CRUNCHmmmmmmGULP".

  3. Most spiders found in the house are not dangerous, but it is still preferable to keep them outside. Spiders are a great asset to the garden. Without spiders, we would be overrun by flies, various garden-eating insects, and other pests.

No matter what we do to avoid spidersspidersspiders, we are bound to find an occasional spider trapped in the shower or bathtub, or lingering under the sink. Sometimes spidersspidersspiders get carried inside on clothing, pets, or in packaging materials.

If more than the occasional spider appears, it may be that your househousehouse has become an appealing habitat. SpidersSpidersSpiders like dusty, undisturbed quarters that seldom see a broom, dust mop or vacuum. The corners of ceilings and floors, underneath beds, behind furniture, the backs of closets, and rarely used cupboards are all prime areas for a spider to take up residence. Simply spraying these areas with insecticide will not provide a long-term solution and can create other potential problems.

The best way to keep spidersspidersspiders in the garden rather than the househousehouse is to make the househousehouse unappealing to spidersspidersspiders. Use a dust mop on ceiling corners and behind inner doors that are kept open, such as hallway and bedroom doors. Refrain from storing items under the bed or use plastic underbed storage containers that can easily slide out for an occasional vacuuming. Cardboard boxes attract spidersspidersspiders, so opt for plastic storage tubs from discount marts, excellent for storing virtually everything including clothes.

Undisturbed closets are a prime area for spidersspidersspiders, and the tendency to stockpile can make cleaning more difficult, causing it to be put off. Instead, donate old shoes and clothes to the Salvation Army or your favorite charity. Empty closets completely, give them a good cleaning, then dust off items before putting them back. Use a vacuum attachment to vacuum out the insides of shoes.

If there are toys in the closet, consider storing them in a plastic tub. This makes subsequent cleanings easier. Occasionally go through cupboards in the kitchen and bathroom to remove old items, and keep floors mopped. These steps will go a long way towards making your househousehouse unattractive to spidersspidersspiders.

Garages and sheds are also prime areas for spidersspidersspiders. The same basic rules apply. Don’t store unused items, and use plastic storage containers for items you do want to store. A leaf blower is a good cleaning tool for the shed and garage. Blow off shelves, blow out corners, and blow the floors clean. The more activity an area sees, the less likely it is to attract spidersspidersspiders.

When you come across a spider in your househousehouse, do your garden a favor and trap the spider in a glass or jar. Slide a letter or card under the jar to force the spider back into the glass, then lift the jar holding the card across the top as a lid. Take the spider outside and shake the jar out over a bush. White househousehouse spidersspidersspiders and other common varieties pose no threat.

That said, one potentially dangerous species that is sometimes found in homes is the brown recluse or fiddle-back spider. Many species look similar, but this spider features a dark brown or black “violin” shape on its back, giving it its name. These spidersspidersspiders often take up residence inside shoes that have not been recently worn. Consider storing seasonal shoes in a sealed plastic tub in the closet.

In the shed or garage one might also come across a black widow spider. Black widows are bulbous with a red hourglass design on the underside. To be safe avoid handling any spider directly, even when it does not appear to be a harmful species.

If bitten by a spider, call your local poison center or see your physician. When possible, bring the spider with you, even if mangled. In most cases, spider bites will heal on their own and pose no threat.

  4. I really like the other answers on this query but many seem a little smelly and time consuming.  We used to have a problem with spiders etc. etc. until I plugged these electronic things in upstairs and down.  Now we have very few visitors (of the insect/spider type).  Yes I know the adverts all seem like a load of hype but these really do work.

  6. You can't it talks about in Solomon how spiders are evening in the King's palaces. You can't get rid of them.

  7. put something they dislike around the house and they wont come.

  8. Clove oil, they hate it, you can get it in spray form or even from the Bettaware man, that comes once a month on a tuesday in that battered up escort. They call it Spider spots and It does work, about the only thing that does from bettaware

  9. We get some wicked BIG spiders where I live since it's a wooded lot..!  They especially LOVED to make webs in our picture windows- I swear they were watching television and 1 in particular LOVED to play JUMP out of the mailbox at me!  Well, I bought some ORTHO HOME DEFENSE it's available at most hardware stores and big box stores like Target, Home Depot, Lowes etc... It comes in a gal. size with a sprayer for around $15 and you spray it along the INSIDE/OUTSIDE perimeter of your home... It's non-smelling/staining and it really works.. It also keeps out ants, fleas, lady bugs, silverfish, beetles etc... It's guaranteed for 6 months!  If it doesn't work there's a money-back guarantee from ORTHO and they DO honor it!

You can also BOMB/FOG your entire home with ORTHO/RAID brand foggers just be sure to follow the directions...

    Good luck

  10. Cover your house in cling film...

  11. Some simple steps to take are:

    1. Close all air vents on windows.

    2. Keep the plug in on all sinks/baths etc.

    3. Tape up the air vent that my be built into the wall (if not needed anymore)

But if any spiders do get in they wont do you any harm, just trap them in a jar and release them in the back of the garden away from the house.

  12. We have our house sprayed inside and out.  It also keeps the scorpions out.  Thank goodness!!

  13. Make sure there aren't any cracks in walls they can get through. These cracks are normally found in the attic room. Once they are sealed you should not have a problem.

  14. There are some plug in things you can get that send a signal to all insects to keep away. They are available in B&Q (Englsih DIY shops). They arent 100 percent effective but they do a good job.

  15. put lavender oil round your doors and windows, apparently that works.

  16. with a twelve bore mwahahahaha.

no seriously, they sell a special spray (cant think of the name of it), at many hardware stores which you spray around you window and door frames to stop them coming in which works well although you will need to apply monthly.

they also sell a plug in device which emits a high level noise and vibration which we cant hear which they hate so they dont come in. failing this then i use flyscreens (the ones with velcro tabs) around my windows but that doesnt protect the doors.

  17. change the locks on the spider door, so they can't use their key.

  18. Hi

Use chestnut oil painted around all the entrances to your home. They hate the stuff with a passion and wont even step where it has been put.

You can buy a spray from betterware online at the link below. It's called spider stop.

    Hope this helps
