  1. I actually use two methods since I have a (relatively) large cellar. First, I usually put all of the newest case I buy together, which helps keeps things organised. Second, I have created a database using Microsoft Access, which I then use to print labels. Complicated? Not really. Time consuming? Absolutely. Worth it? Thats up to you.

  2. There are a number of way to track wines in cellar.

There are the old fashion writing on paper.  This actually is a good way of doing it, since tracking it by hand tend to help keeping an active knowledge of the names and types of wines in the cellar.

There are also a number of wine tracking softwares out there.  Barnes and Nobles has a wine tracking system available for about $50.  There is also a palm pilot version, even though not as good.

Personally, I use internet.  Bottlecount (www.bottlecount.com) is one of the best tracking system online, and it allows me to pull up my wine list anywhere there is internet.  There is also cellar tracker (www.cellartracker.com).

Just be good about keeping it up to date.  I found myself pulling a few bottles out and putting a few in, and forget to update.  That gets to be a headache when you manage a huge cellar.
