Question:

How do you keep water out of your nose when swimming?

When I dive underwater, I get water in my nose and it burns like h**l!

I know I can get a nose clip, but I'd like to learn how to do it without one. I've tried blowing air out through my nose, but it doesn't seem to work very well when I jump in the water.

How does everybody else do it?

  1. just blow the water out your nose hard! it always works for me. but then again, i've been swimming for years. just try jumping in and blowing out hard w/ your mouth or nose. keeps the water out great. :) srry i cant be better help than that. :(

  2. i guess you can get a nose surgery to block your nose or jus deal with it

  3. I coach swim team. and what I always tell my little kids to do it to put there hand over  there mouth and nose (don't hold there nose) then go under water and pretend like your blowing into a tissue!!!

    hope this helps!!!

  4. Well just try not to breathe under water.

  5. if i jump in feet first i barely have to exhale through my nose at all. it should feel like you just breathed in deep and then took a nice and relaxed breath out, not forced but not constrained.

if i am swimming on my front and my nostrols are facing down-ish, good ol' physics keeps a protective bubble in your nose easier. when you breath out, this feels more like you're humming.

but when you really have to exhale is when you are upside down, or diving in head first.  and that you REALLY have to blow out! like i'm a competetive swimmer and i go through literally all my air in my lungs in a span of like 1-3 seconds when i do that.

but just practice more and overblow if you are not sure.

  6. the easiest way to do that is to hum.  i know it sounds funny but it really works.  keep your mouth closed and hum it blows bubbles our of your nose keeping the water coming in.  after a while you wont actually have to hum.  good luck

  7. hold it

but i blow out my nose
