I am going on my first long trip where I will have to drive. My sister and my baby will be in the car with me and i'll be following my Dad from Baton Rouge to Ft. Worth. I'm not use to driving for long periods of time, so I wanted to know what are some tips to help me stay awake all this time.

  1. Drink some Monster Java or eat some dark chocolate.  Both can really pep you up.  Try and make sure that you have someone to talk to.  Listen to talk radio - not music.  If you need to stop, by all means call your Dad and tell him to pull over.  Make sure you periodically stop at a rest area to get out and stretch your legs - even if you don't need to use the restroom.  If there is no rest area, pull over as far as you can from the highway and walk around for a while.  Fresh air can really help.  Also, say a little prayer before you leave, asking for a safe trip - even if you're not religious.  It can't hurt, you know?  Have fun and stay safe!  Hey, you could also look at your gas receipt if you want a major jolt back to reality!  Yikes!  : D

  2. just dont drive if you are likely to sleep - it's really dangerous !!

  3. bring lots of coffee or maybe take some energy medication.

  4. Keep the car cold.  Drink lots of caffeine.  Listen to loud music.  Talk with your sister to stay alert.   Take breaks every hours.

  5. coffee and phone calls. :)
