How do you kill "Lice"?

I have tried Rid and Nix shampoo and rinse. I used the gel and nit comb to remove the "eggs". I bagged up all the stuffed animals. I used fumigators, foggers, and spray for the house, furniture and beds. I have washed and dried all clothing (above 175 degree's) for an hour. I sprayed the interior of my car. But they seem to return within a week.

  1. well, my only suggestion is....move to a part of the country that has a lot of natural disaters. a good forest fire will teach those pesky lice a lesson they'll never forget

  2. You have to make sure you pick every nit (egg) out of the hair, it takes hours. I feel for you I picked so many eggs out of my children's hair when they were younger I seriously thought about opening a business and contracting to agencies that deal with children. Every time my kids went to their Dad's for the weekend they would come home with lice. I was afraid I was going to make them sick from treating their hair. An alternative treatment is to put olive oil all over the hair and put a plastic cap on your head over night (it smothers the lice), but you still have to remove the eggs. The olive oil rinses out with a good shampooing. A GREAT BUY IS AN ELECTRIC NIT COMB, it is battery operated and you just comb it through your hair Everyday for a Month. It kills the lice and the eggs. This nit comb was the life saver for me, it is not very expensive and well worth the money. You should be able to find one by the other treatments for lice. GOOD LUCK! I hope these ideas help.

  3. you also need to shampoo your carpet and coutches, the beds and blancets. basicly every single thing you come with contact. it is hard to get read of it. just use the lice shampoo every few weeks or what my mom did if she didnt have money to go out and get the stuff is used viniger. i had lice like five times when i was in elementary school. it sucks.

  4. maybe you forgot to shampoo your hair but maintain your cleaning procedures.

  5. use cocunut oil on the hair

  6. I just dealed with lice this week! A professional came to my house to get rid of it for me & gave me great tips!

This is going to be time consuming. SOAK the hair in olive oil and put a shower cap on it. Keep it on for FOUR hours. This should kill all the live lice. If you only keep it on for 1-3 hours they will survive because lice can hold their breath for 3 hours.

Rinse it out & begin to take out the nits with the comb. Go through your hair EVERY night till you're sure you don't have any more eggs. If you see lice in about a week, do it all over again.

Also, there's no need to bag everything for THREE weeks. All you do is wash your sheets & everything you were in contact with in HOT water, and then in the dryer (on hot) for 30 minutes at least.

If you can't wash it ( like teddy bears) vacuum it good.

If the item can't be vacuumed/washed, put it aside for 24-48 hours because lice cannot live off the human head for more than 2 days.

    Good luck!

P.S when you hear that you need to bag things for THREE weeks. It's a bunch of bull. Just 24-48 hours is it.

Also, soak hair brushes & other hair items in HOOOOOT water for about 30 minutes.

  7. Simply put, don't wash your children's hair everyday!  Lice simply LOVE a clean head to latch onto!  Use a leave in conditioner, hot oil treatment and wash your childrens hair 1x or 2x a week... !   Lice also HATE tea tree oil add to some water and a spray bottle and spray bedding, pillows, CHILDREN!

Also, vacuum like a crazy person... All your soft surfaces like furniture, wash pillows.... Lice don't JUMP they spread from head to head contact...

    Good luck

  8. Shampoo every day.

    Extreme response, shave your head.

If the lice are coming back they are coming back from somewhere.

Check everybody's head that you associate with, or your kids hang out with.

Somebody in your circle has lice and are not getting treated. Lice can live on clean heads as well as dirty so that is not an indicatio.

If you do find lice be careful how you inform the people.

It should not be the social stigma that it is, but people feel shame and guilt when called lousy, so use a bit of tact when telling them.

  9. Forget chemicals and shampoos and all that stuff - they don't work.  The solution is simple:  Wash hair and use conditioner.  Comb out while still damp.  Comb every day without fail.  You don't have to wash it every day but it needs to be damp.

You can't kill the eggs and it's impossible to find and extract them all, but combing gets rid of the lice that have hatched before they have a chance to lay more eggs.  After a couple of weeks, all the eggs have hatched, the lice have been combed out and that's the end of it.  The only problem then is to keep the kids away from other kids who have head lice.
