How do you know a bird in it's egg is still alive?

Ok so I found an egg. I have kept it in warn for two days. But I want to know if it is even alive....

  3. Seeing veins doesn't indicate the bird is *still* alive; it merely indicates that at one point (and possibly still), it WAS alive.

    What you need to check for by using a flashlight is to see if you can see any movement from inside the egg.

    Young embryos (between 4-10 days) usually have a visible heart beat (if the egg is light colored and easily candled).

    After that age, you can typically still observe movement of the embryo.

    Sometimes, though, it's hard to see whether any movement is taking place.

    Keeping an egg "warm" isn't necessarily enough.  It depends on how "warm" it is being kept (which depends on what type of bird it is); and they also need a very specific humidity in order to develop properly.

    A light bulb and a towel won't cut it.. likewise; they need to be turned every 20-30 minutes for proper development.

  4. hold it over a flashlight. if you see red veins it has something in it.

  5. Put a flashlight directly on it and if you see red lines or Viens theres a chick in it
