  1. how do you know if a man is neurotic?

  2. Neurosis:

A mental and emotional disorder that affects only part of the personality, is accompanied by a less distorted perception of reality than in a psychosis, does not result in disturbance of the use of language, and is accompanied by various physical, physiological, and mental disturbances (as visceral symptoms, anxieties, or phobias).

The first thing I thought of when I read this question was the television show "Roseanne". Her sister in the show (Jackie) was the epitome of this behaviour. She had every symptom and even Roseanne herself told her she was neurotic. If you've ever watched that show, you'd see neurotic at it's best.

  3. Neurosis is a broad term that describes a person with varying degrees of any of the following: depression, anxiety, lack of emotions, low self-confidence, and/or emotional instability. In essence, this causes distress but does not effect rational thought.

If any the following symptoms occur CONSISTENTLY then I would recommend seeing a therapist:

Anxiety, depression, irritability, low sense of self-worth, anger, avoidance, lethargy, impulsive and compulsive acts, unpleasant or disturbing thoughts, repetition of thoughts and obsession, habitual fantasizing, negativity and cynicism, as well as aggressiveness, perfectionism, schizoid isolation, and extreme socio-culturally inappropriate behaviors.

The best solution is to obtain a diagnosis from a professional and seek treatment, whether it be pyschotherapy or medication (which usually takes a few weeks to have an effect).
