How do you know if someone is shy or just doesn't like you?

If the person likes to be around you but is quiet then they like your company, they are just shy. If the person avoids being around you and is quiet, you might need to ask. I would say they dont like me if they dont want to be around me. Quiet I can deal with.

you could look out for their body language, that could give a small hint. if they tense up around you, blush or get extremely quiet then it could mean they are shy. if they avoid you at all costs and seem cold towards you then they probably don't like you but don't want to hurt your feelings. the best thing to do in this situation is take that extra step and find out yourself for definite - just go up to him, be friendly and say hey. i doubt he will be horrible or anything like that so don't miss out on this chance! if he doesn't like you in that way then don't get worked up about it - life's life and atleast you can look back on it and say you tried!

is that person friendly to your face, and does it seem genuine??

Some people (like me) are really quiet, im not good at talking to people, and I always worry that people dont like me because they might think im "stuck up" or i dont like them.

so If I was you i would give them the benefit of the doubt and say they probably like you as much as they like everybody else =)
