How do you know if something does or doesn't have nuts in it?

Like some things say 'may contain nuts' or others have labels 'nut-free'. If there's no label at all, must we assume the product probably came in contact with nuts?

  1. usually the FDA doesnt allow guys to wear their pants down so NUT FREE all the way

    lol

seriously dont take your chances unless you want to file a lawsuit

  2. Because of the risk of death if someone with a nut allergy eats anything with nuts in it, all products that have the slightest possibility of containing nuts must be labeled as "may contain nuts'.

Thats why chocolate always says may contain traces of nuts, as the machinery may have been used for a nut containing product in the past. And they cannot rule out that some nut protein could make its way into your chocolate.

This is in Australia. I assume most countries would be the same.

  3. read the ingredients label on the back next to the nutritional facts.  any food that's edible will have that label on it.  so just look for that, and look for any nut.  yep

  4. The reason some labels have a "May contain nuts" label, even if there are no nuts listed in the ingredients, is because the facility the product is manufactured at might produce other products with nuts in them. Since the same machinery can be used to make the products with nuts as well as those without nuts, then there is a chance of cross contamination, even though the machines are supposed to be cleaned between cycles. So there might end up being a trace amount of nuts in the no nuts product.

If the company that makes the product you purchase also makes products which contain nuts, then you shouldn't take a chance that your product doesn't contain any trace amount of nuts in it, even if it doesn't list nuts as an ingredient or have "May contain nuts" on its label.
