How do you know if you're a pathological liar?

So, when I was little, I lied like crazy. Now, I don't tell as obvious lies, but I do lie a LOT, even if I don't need to. My friend was joking and she said "You're totally a pathological liar."

Now that I think about it, I'm afraid that I am. I make up stories all the time about the most random things (like I told my friend I dropped my phone into the pool, but I've never gotten my phone wet), and I can't help it. I just lie... a lot....

I really can't help it. So do you think I'm a pathological liar?

If you lie even when you "don't need to," yes you are.

It's like an addiction and an ego game.

Get counseling and overcome this before it destroys your relationships with others now and through the years.

  Have you seen the story on the news about Casey Anthony, she is a pathological liar.   You can try to help your issue by thinking about what you are saying before you say it.  If your friend notices it other people will too.  It will be very difficult for you to have a long term relationship with anyone, unless you can be honest with yourself and others.  It sounds like you are already recognizing this by posting your question.
