How do you know if you're being hacked?

Seriously, I don't have any great stuff on my laptop. Homework papers, probably just about it - would a hacker try to hack a laptop with something like that?

I can't get into my administrator account. I type the password over and over, and it doesn't work. Of course, I gave my password to my brother, and "conveniently" enough, I can't get into my account. (Before you say I'm stupid, I had important reasons to give it to my bro). He said that someone hacked my laptop, and that's why I can't get into my admins. acc. But, he was also able to get into it once (after typing after a while). Did someone really hack my laptop, or is my brother just...tricking me?

Sounds to me like your bro has changed the password...and when you hack a computer its a phsycal thing

I don't think a "hacker" would change your admin password. The idea of hacking is a process of stealing information, altering data, and removing information without any evidence of doing so. No trojan/adware/malware person is going to leave evidence of such a thing on your system. Your brother is not very bright, but he fooled you so you need to update your knowledge of computers.

Changing a password is a bit childish. And to be honest, if you're on a windows machine and it's YOUR laptop, you should always log into administrator. It's your machine, no reason to make separate accounts.

Just don't download random things (programs, small size mp3s, images that come up as a "download" prompt instead of just being viewed on your browser, etc...), have an antivirus program, and do windows update once a week. And you won't be hacked.
