How do you know if you are allowed to turn left or to turn right when exiting a driveway?

  1. Well the rules in california for this is the same absolutely every where else.  Look both ways make sure there are no cars coming and make sure there are no cops and then you can turn any direction you want.  You can even do doughtnuts in the road and it won't matter.


  2. Look for signs and also look for the color of the center strip on the road that you are wanting to go on to.

  3. if the street has no island - you turn to left or right depending on direction where youre going unless the road is one way.

  4. look and see if there is a lane going both ways<

  5. If you are pulling out of a drive way that is on a one way street, then you must go in the direction of traffic flow.

    When there are "Two sets of solid double yellow lines spaced two or more feet part" it is considered the same as having an island in the road which is considered a barrier and not to be crossed (even from a private entrance such a drive way from a house or business). So you must turn in the direction of traffic flow on your side of this barrier (most often right). Unless directed other wise by an officer of the law or other emergency officers.

    These rules are pretty much standard across the US.
