  1. You could put it into a container to check but I guarantee you the gas stations do not need to rip you off anymore than they already are


  2. Here in the U.S., the filling stations are checked for accuracy periodically, and you can report one if you suspect foul play.

  3. Weights and Measures. A government based company that checks stations at random

  4. Gas pumps have to give the correct measure. They are tested just like shop scales. If they give short measure it is theft and  the authorities fall on them heavily.

  5. You don't. State dept. or weights and measures is supposed to check pumps and "certify them" every so many years... but in the mean time you can get really screwed. Look up how big your tank is in your owners manual. You can estimate from there after you fill up.

  6. the  bureau of weights and measures, if you suspect your getting shorted, give them a call...

  7. the sad thing is that you dont, form what I have read most pumps either short you a little r give you a little, rarely more though. The floats in the gas pumps are alwasy a little off, usually the first couple of cents no gas comes out. Yeah its a bunch of BS but wat can you expect LOL
